Scarves and Surreal Art on Display this January at Barrington Public Library

Throughout the month of January, Barrington Public Library displays unique hand-painted scarves by Mary Monteiro of DBA Avani Original Art and surreal paintings, prints and mixed media by Jonathan Sheppard.

Monteiro began creating scarves in February 2013 after a life-long career in illustration and fine art. Avani, Sanskirt for Earth, reflects her deep concern for the environment. Using eco-friendly paints and resources are her top priority. Her scarves are made of silk, cotton, bamboo and rayon. The unusual painting process results in one-of-a-kind designs. Her work can be viewed in the glass case exhibit. In addition to scarves, she paints wall hangings. Her complete portfolio can be viewed at http://avanioriginalart.artspan.com/

Sheppard, a Barrington native and graduate from Barrington High School, Class of 2010 uses vibrant colors and high visual contrast to his paintings, prints and mixed media. While in high school, Sheppard was named “Best Artist” for his class. He has gone on to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Community College of Rhode Island. His work can be viewed in the hall exhibit.
