"Rescue of the Bounty: Disaster and Survival in Superstorm Sandy"

Michael Tougias, noted author and lecturer, marine historian, sailor, and bon vivant, has co-authored a new book, Rescue of the Bounty: Disaster and Survival in Superstorm Sandy, with Douglas A. Campbell. The book investigates the harrowing journey of a tall ship caught up in Hurricane Sandy’s gale … and the consequences of that journey to the crew and the ship.  Kirkus Reviews has described the book as “A taut recounting of a needless maritime tragedy.”

Mr. Tougias will share his insights into this tragedy—the motivations of the captain in deciding to sail; the horror of a hurricane at sea; the dramatic efforts of the Coast Guard to rescue crew; and the lasting impact of the voyage on crew members and their families.  Join us at the Marine Museum at Fall River on April 6th at 2:00 pm to hear the tale. Bring a friend and family member!

This free event is sponsored by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council and is open to members and the public, alike. Don’t miss this compelling talk!
