Revisit the Underground Railroad in this suspenseful movie rendition of Virginia Hamilton's classic, "The House of Dies Drear." Travel with young Thomas Small as his family moves into a home in rural Ohio and discover that during the Civil War it was used by Dutch immigrant, Dies Drear, to smuggle runaway slaves to freedom. Soon they begin to suspect that the ghosts of slaves who passed through there are haunting the house. Dramatic special effects build suspense as Walter Small and his son Thomas seek to discover the secrets of the legendary haunted house. Appropriate for upper elementary and middle school-aged children as some scenes are a bit spooky.
