Was Easter Prowler Would-be Burglar?

Barrington police search neighborhoods south of County Road between Riverside line and Haines park after a prowler walks onto a porch of a home on County Road.

Was the prowler thinking about breaking into their house on County Road on Easter Sunday evening?

Barrington police received a call yesterday about 8:41 pm that a white male walked up onto the porch of the home a few minutes before he was scared away by the owners turning on a porch light.

The homeowners saw the man walk across a side yard and through the back yard to get to the back porch, they told police. He was described as about 5-9 and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross would not speculate on whether the man might be the same one who has been burglarizing homes in Barrington over the past 10 days.

Four patrol officers conducted a search of the County Road area near the Riverside border and around Williams Street. The homeowners said he ran off toward Williams Street, south of their home.

The police officers also searched streets as far south of County Road as Haines Park Road, LaCross said, but they spotted no one fitting that description.

LaCross said anyone who might have seen someone on Easter Sunday evening that fits the prowler’s description in those neighborhoods should call the police department on its confidential tip line: 437-3933.

Police released a photo of a "person of interest" last week who they believe might have broken into a house on Wood Avenue. Call the police department if you can ID the person of interest or spotted someone who might be would-be Easter burglar.
