Favorite bank? The one that gives maybe 5% interest to use other people's money. Nevermind. Citizens will give you what? 0.7% on money market accounts? Sovereign is at what? 0.80% but they'll give you 1.01% to use your money if you tie it up for a year in a cd. Ask a teller about the current FDIC limits and they say, "That's a separate company, we can't talk about it". Can't talk about the FDIC? They have to call the manager over to tell you why they can't talk about the FDIC insurance limits. How much interest do banks give on the money in a checking account? 0.01% maybe? Banks use your money to make enough profit for them to pay all of their salaries, benefits, overhead, etc. and they pay you very little for the use of your money. Will the rates on deposits ever come back up once the economy recovers? Or are low rates just a happy byproduct for the banks now that we are used to it? Is the economy recovering?

MW, agree with substance of your comment, but your issue is endemic in the industry nationally. If this is strictly a poll forservices in local branches of the major banks, at last count there were at least 6 banks represented in town - where are Sovereign, Citizens, and Webster? Time to ditch the Patch Readers Choice Polls in Barrington unless you're really going to do this right and be fair.

Right you are, Donut. Just taking the opportunity to draw attention to the issue. Sorry. ;-) Coloring inside the lines isn't always as fun or informative as throwing ideas outside the box and seeing what comes back in the way of thoughts from other readers. As to the banks left out, these polls are the culmination of a narrowing down process, no? So the ones that are left out maybe didn't make the earlier cut?
