Hard Freeze Forecast for Region

The National Weather Service has issued a 'freeze watch' for the region overnight Friday into Saturday.

It may be time to turn on your heat. And to bundle up if you go out to one of Barrington's weekend festivals Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service office in Boston has issued a freeze watch for most of Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.

A hard freeze, meaning temperatures in the low 30s, is anticipated for overnight Friday, Oct. 12, into Saturday morning, Oct. 13.

The freeze could bring an end to the growing season and harm sensitive vegetation unless it is protected, according to the National Weather Service.

The freeze also will probably end worries about mosquitoes and mosquito-borne illnesses.
