What is RI's Best Selling Car?

Rhode Island drivers tend to lean town reliability and fuel economy when choosing their next vehicles.

When it's time to head to trade in the old clunker for a shiny new car, Rhode Islanders tend to lean toward a combination of reliability and fuel economy, according to a recent study.

The Honda Accord is the vehicle of choice for many Rhode Islanders, according to Business Insider. The results, compiled by Kelly Blue Book, puts the Accord atop the pile in Rhode Island. Drivers in Massachusetts and Connecticut also lean toward Honda, but a slightly bigger version — the CR-V compact SUV.

Honda Accords generally have a reputation for being reliable, quality cars that deliver good fuel economy. Drivers can expect an average gas mileage of 27 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the highway, according to honda.com.

"Take an Accord for a test-drive and you'll find it comfortable, roomy, intelligently engineered and easy to drive," reports auto reviewer edmunds.com. "Research it, and you'll find it backed by a solid reputation for reliability, strong resale value and an emphasis on safety."

Nationally, drivers seem to care less about fuel economy than they do toughness and utility. The Ford F-150 pickup truck is by far the most popular vehicle in the country, Business Insider reports. It is the favorite vehicle among drivers in 35 states.

There are four new Honda dealers in Rhode Island, including:

  • Saccucci Honda, 1350 West Main Road, Middletown.
  • Metro Honda, 1880 Hartford Ave., Johnston.
  • Majestic Honda, 1300 Eddie Dowling Highway, Lincoln.
  • Majestic Honda South, 509 Quaker Lane, Warwick.
