Another long-time Barrington flower shop is closing its doors this week – the second florist in the past year to shutter its shop.

Wild Flower Florist and Garden Center on Waseca Avenue is going out of business and selling the building, said owner Kathy Luther. It opened 25 years ago.

“We had a good run,” said Luther, who plans to close officially next Saturday, Feb. 1, after a closing scheduled for this week.

Luther is selling the building to Bayside Mobile Veterinary Care, Inc., of Warren. It has been on the market for about a year.

“I feel lucky to be able to sell the building,” said Luther, who actually was celebrating her quarter-century in business when she got the offer for the building at 233 Waseca Ave.

Luther opened the flower shop in what was the backyard of her father, Joseph “Coach D” DeSisto, who has been her biggest supporter over the years, she said. DeSisto had a vegetable garden there.

DeSisto was sitting with Luther in the shop last week. He always kept a gate in the fence behind the shop.

“It’s very bittersweet,” Luther said.

She opened the store after working as a manager for the former Cherry & Webb retail store in Barrington.

Luther has no specific plans down the road right now.

“I’m just taking some time off,” she said.

Phil Judge Florist in Primrose Hill closed its doors last year after more than 40 years in business in Barrington.

Flowers Galore on Maple Avenue Square also is liquidating its inventory and plans to close its doors in the near future as well after eight years in business. That closing will leave only one other stand-alone flower shop in Barrington – Daisy Dig’ins Florist and Gifts on Maple Avenue.

Kathy we will miss your amazing and creative designs! Hopefully you still operate on a smaller basis as it would be a shame to not share your artistic talents! So happy you were able to sell your building and we wish you all the best in anything and everything you choose to do.
