Fire Rips Through Barrington Home

A mid-day blaze is devouring a two-story home at the end of Colonial Drive in Barrington.

The blaze is believed to have started early this morning, Jan. 10, and smoldered before smoke was spotted by a neighbor.

Firefighters from Barrington, Warren, Seekonk, and East Providence were on the scene. Everyone was pulled out of the house around noon as flames and thick smoke poured out of the roof.

The house sits at 41 Colonial Drive, a dead-end street off of Sowams Road in the Hampden Meadows neighborhood. Firefighters were fighting the blaze primarily from a ladder truck on the street as rain started to fall around 12:45 pm.

Firefighters are expected to be on the scene for hours. The home is expected to be a total loss. It was described by a fire lieutenant as an L-shaped home that has had various additions attached to it over the years.
