Dustine Reich gave a benefit violin concert at Temple Habonim on New Meadow Road in Barrington last Sunday as her "good deed" project for making Bat-Mitzvah this spring.

The beneficiary of the Barrington Middle School seventh-grader's performance is the non-profit organization, Community MusicWorks.  The nonprofit uses music education and performance to build lasting and meaningful relationships between children, families, and professional musicians in urban neighborhoods of Rhode Island, especially by helping children who can’t afford to buy a musical instrument.

“I chose them because being able to play music is a very important part of my life,” Dustine said.

Nearly every seat was filled as Dustine sat patiently waiting to begin. By the time her concert started, more chairs had to be brought in.

Dustine played 10 pieces, beginning with a serenade by G. B. Viotti.  Her father, Andrew Reich, accompanied his daughter on violin on this piece along with the next selection, Allemande, by J. B. De Boismortier.

Dustine's aunt, Peggy Reich, accompanied Dustine on piano on the next selections: La Folia by A. Corelli, Meditation From Thais by J. Massenet, Czardas by V. Monti, and Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone.  Then Andrew Reich stepped back beside his daughter with his violin for Concerto in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The final three pieces were: Slowly by Paul Hindemith, a Hungarian folk-song by Matyas Seiber, and a waltz by Carl Maria Von Weber.

Dustine, a polite, composed and talented young lady, is an accomplished violinist who has been playing since the age of four.  Last year she served as concertmaster for the Philharmonic Repertory Orchestra. She has performed in a number of recitals and is a member of the Philharmonic Youth Symphony.
