'Bugsy Malone Jr.' Tickets on Sale

The next performance of Arts Alive! in Barrington plays May 11-12; 123 Hampden Meadows School students make up the cast.

Tickets for “Bugsy Malone Jr.” – the next performance of Arts Alive! in Barrington – went on sale on Monday.

“It’s our most spectacular production yet,” said Dena Davis, co-founder and manager of Arts Alive!

The performance includes 123 students from Hampden Meadows School, she said. Shows will take place on the Barrington High School auditorium stage.

Performances are May 11 at 7 pm and May 12 at 1 and 7 pm. Tickets are $5.

The production includes a live jazz band made up of Barrington High School music students led by professional jazz musician John McKenna of Barrington; “splurgers” -- custard-shooting weapons -- designed by Boris Bally, an internationally renowned artist; and more than 300 vintage costumes.

Of course, there will be flappers, tappers, and gangsters, Davis said. The play is made for children and depicts gangsters during the Prohibition era of the 1920s in Chicago, only no one ever dies, they just get "splurged."

“This musical parody promises to dazzle and put a smile on your face,” she said.
