Take 'Prowl for Owls' in Barrington

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is leading a walk through Veterans Memorial Park.

Take a late afternoon walk and full moon prowl for owls on Sunday, Nov. 17, in Veterans Memorial Park in Barrington.

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is hosting the walk through a park that is considered one of the town’s best-kept secrets. It starts at 4:30 pm.

“We’ll look for Great Horned and Screech owls, which often perch along the vernal pools,” said Helen Tjader of the Land Trust. “If the weather is clear, we’ll be treated to a rising full moon melting out among the bare tree trunks.”

Bring a flashlight and wear outdoor clothes and sturdy shoes appropriate for the weather. The walk is considered at the “easy level.” But sections of the trail may be soggy.

The Land Trust has been working for several years with Barrington’s Town Trails Team, the Bayside YMCA near the park, and other local partners and volunteers to improve the trails in the park. The large red maple swamp to be hiked is in the heart of Barrington.

Park in the YMCA parking lot. Walk to the stone pillars at the entrance to Veterans Park. It sits at the bend in West Street near the baseball field.

Contact Tjader at Helen@acornnpsolutions.com or 401-480-8329 with any questions about the walk. She also is looking for volunteers for the Town Trails Team.
