Flood Watch Issued as Heavy Rains Pound County

Thunderstorm alert has been upgraded to flood advisory for all of Bristol County.

A band of heavy rain expected to continue into this evening continues to pound much of Bristol County, prompting the National Weather Service to upgrade an earlier alert into a flood advisory for all of Bristol County.

The advisory — also issued for portions of Providence, Kent and Newport counties, as well as areas of Southeastern Massachusetts — remains in effect until 3 p.m.

Widespread street flooding is expected, so drivers are advised to take care on the roads. Flooding in areas near streams and ponds and along the coast is also likely.

More than an inch of rain has already fallen across much of the area, the National Weather Service reports, and another 1 to 1.5 inches is likely to fall this afternoon. Heavy downpours could dump upwards of an inch of rain an hour in some areas.

Much of the area will continue to see rain showers and scattered thunderstorms into the night, making flooding possible in some areas past the 3 p.m. advisory.

The good new is that by late tomorrow morning, the rain will be long forgotten. Barrington can expect a return to summer for the weekend with sunny skies and temperatures in the low- to mid-80s Saturday and Sunday.
