Coventry Non-Profit Youth Organization to Host Fund-raising Breakfast

Rhode Island Sports Heroes will host a breakfast on Saturday in Coventry to benefit the organization's youth sports programs.

Since 2004, RI Sports Heroes (RISH), a Coventry-based non-profit organization, has been focused on making a difference in the lives of area youth by engaging them in professional sporting events and having them participate in various athletic activities.

Since its inception, RISH has reached out to thousands of Rhode Island's less fortunate children ages 7-17 and made a difference in their lives. The organization uses a three-tiered initiative; Spectate, Educate and Participate.

Spectate comes into play when members bring children to professional and semi-pro sporting events such as Boston Red Sox and Bruins, Pawtucket Red Sox and Bruins and Boston Celtics games, as well as URI and Brown athletic events and more.

Education is worked towards by coordinating with local community groups to build educational programs and activities, such as Martial Arts, Dance and Lacrosse clinics.

Participation is encouraged with RISH-hosted activities including bowling nights, deep sea fishing, field days, ice skating, snow tubing and other outings.

According to Event Coordinator Nicole Bourget RISH provides all funding for each event which pays for tickets, food, t-shirts, keepsakes and transportation for out-of-state activities.

"We rely on grants and fund-raising so our services remain free to all programs participating," said Bourget. "Our mission is to provide experiences that create self-confidence, determination and accomplishment."

This Saturday, the organization will host a fund-raising breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. at Manchester Lodge (585 Washington St., Coventry). For $10, guests can enjoy pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, bagels, pastries, toast, juice and coffee. Click here to RSVP on the event's Facebook page.
