Barrington's Most Ignored Stop Signs?

Stop signs are not optional, but they're sometimes treated as if they are. And we're always supposed to stop at a red light before making a right turn.

There are scores of stop signs in Barrington. And a bunch of intersections with lights. Some signs are overlooked, especially when drivers are in a rush. And some drivers roll right through when making a right turn on red.

Many of us would probably admit to rolling through stop signs at one time or another. Or simply rolling through a red light when making a right turn. Does the intersection of County Road and Maple Avenue come to mind?

So, which stop signs or right turns on red in Barrington are frequently rolled through or ignored? Share your pick in the comments section, below. Your warning might save someone from a nasty crash.

Folks are good about stopping since it seems an abundance of police are making sure. As to bikers & pedestrians, let’s please be considerate of each other for safety’s sake. There are many RIGLs to sample. Some excerpts: "§31-17-9 Yielding to riders on bicycle lane. – (a) The driver of a vehicle about to cross or to turn left or right across a bicycle lane shall yield the right-of-way to any person operating a bicycle or motorized wheelchair upon the bicycle lane." .. "§31-18-8 Due care by drivers. – Notwithstanding other provisions of this chapter or the provisions of any local ordinance, every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian or any person propelling a human-powered vehicle upon any roadway, shall give an audible signal when necessary, and shall exercise proper precaution upon observing any child or any obviously confused, intoxicated, or incapacitated person." "§31-18-4(b) Whenever there are no markings to the contrary, there shall be a presumption that there is an unmarked crosswalk at any intersection." "§31-1-17 (f) "Pedestrian" means any person afoot." "§31-19-7 Number of bicycles abreast–Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than 2 abreast except on bicycle trails or paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. Persons riding 2 abreast shall not unduly impede traffic and, on a laned roadway, shall ride within a single lane."

The 4 way stop where Lincoln Ave crosses Upland. I got hit once when a high schooler never stopped and I see it so often. I'm ultra paranoid there now and always stop and wait it out extra carefully.

I am more afraid of all the people that are so busy texting or talking on cells that they forget how to drive completely...

The intersection of Upland and Lincoln. Worse one by far!

Roberta Drive and Grant Street...the stop sign seems to be considered a suggestion, rather than a rule.
