YMCA OF GREATER PROVIDENCE OFFERS A MATTER OF BALANCE - A PROGRAM FOR THOSE AT RISK FOR FALLING

The award winning program A Matter of Balance will be offered at four YMCA of Greater Providence locations including Evergreen House Health Center in East Providence, YMCA in Riverside, South County Y in Wakefield/Peace Dale, and the Pilgrim Senior Center in Warwick.  The program runs weekly for eight weeks, and costs $15.  At the end of the program all participants, who are not already Y members, will be offered a free eight week trial YMCA membership at the YMCA of Greater Providence branch location of their choice.

A Matter of Balance is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling while increasing the activity level of older adults who have concerns about falls.  During the class participants will learn to control their fear of falling, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and enjoy an exercise routine to increase strength and balance.  Additionally, participants will be given tips to change their current environment to reduce the risk for falling.

Those that are concerned about falling or have sustained a fall in the past will benefit from this program.  For men and women over 60 who may be restricting activities due to a fall or fear of falls, and are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength– this class is for you.
