Barrington Pee Wees Prevail in Tough Opener vs. East Bay

The Barrington Pee Wees squared off against local rivals the East Bay Warriors on a wet Labor Day afternoon.  These two teams have a history of physical, low-scoring games. This matchup lived up to that billing, with the Eagles pulling out a hard-fought 7-0 victory.  Barrington's stingy defense was the key to the win, allowing few first downs and just one play over 10 yards all game, while forcing two punts.  Defensive ends Ben Silva, Nick Figueroa and Hunter Norris wreaked havoc in the Warriors' backfield, each with big solo tackles for losses. Cornerback Seth Mitchell shut down the Warriors' sweep and passing attacks all game, and delivered a punishing textbook hit on the EB quarterback.  Tackles Robert Cahill, Meredith Kaplan, Chase White, Sergio DaSilva and Zach Pacheco stuffed the gaps to contained the EB attack in the backfield, with Cahill and Kaplan making great tackles.  Linebackers Jon Adamson and Martin Agustin made sure that almost no plays got past the line of scrimmage.  White also delivered two perfectly-placed, booming kickoffs to make the Warriors start drives deep in their own territory.
East Bay's defense proved to be tough as well, giving up yards but keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard despite several trips deep into Warrior territory.  The determined Barrington squad continued to smash the ball up the middle, as fullbacks Kyle Greenberg and Adamson muscled up field 5 yards at a time to open the second half.  Center Owen Valentine was the Eagles' rock-solid anchorman despite wet, muddy conditions, delivering perfect snaps and critical blocks the entire game. Speedy wing backs Foster Egan and Noah Werbel opened the corners up, with consistent rushing gains on the sweep. Guards Jack Kovolyan, Timmy Hogue and Kaplan and tackles Jack Kelleher, Harry Masse and Oliver Roberts blocked well and helped the backs grind out yards on every down.  Barrington was finally able to put the ball in the end zone when QB Will Rywolt scrambled free during a broken pass attempt and brought the ball wide for the touchdown.  He then followed the Eagles' strong wedge block three yards to pound home the extra point.
The Eagles return home this Saturday to face the Old Rochester Bulldogs at 3:00 at Victory Field.
