Abstract Paintings and Local Geek the Library Photos on Display this April at Barrington Public Library
Throughout the month of April, Barrington Public Library displays abstract oil paintings by Dorota Zilian of Barrington and photographs of library staff and patrons from the library’s What Do You Geek? Photobooth.
Zilian’s work is titled “Lovescapes” and is a meditation on life, love and nature. Her abstract oil landscapes focus not on a particular landscape, but on the interconnection between our human emotional experience of life and the natural world around us. She is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Massachusetts and has been painting for 20 years. Her work is on display in the Hallway Gallery.
This past fall, Barrington Public Library and many other public libraries around Rhode Island participated in a public awareness campaign titled “Geek the Library.” This national campaign used photographs of famous and not-so-famous individuals to share what they “geek” and promoted libraries as a valuable community resource and a place to “Get Your Geek On.” In the Glass Case Display, Barrington Public Library patrons and staff share what they “geek” (what they are passionate about) through a series of photographs. Also displayed is a section of the Geek Board that was another way library patrons shared what they love during the Fall 2013 campaign.
