2nd Story Theatre named Champion in Action in arts and culture category

Citizens Bank and NBC 10 have named 2nd Story Theatre the second 2013 Champion in Action® in the category of arts and culture. 2nd Story Theatre receives a $35,000 unrestricted grant, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its outstanding work.

 

Established in 2001 by Rhode Island artists, 2nd Story Theatre is a community-based, community-focused nonprofit organization providing affordable, high-quality theatre in the East Bay. The company’s mission is to serve as an integral part of cultural life in Warren and the surrounding communities.

The grant will be used to develop an additional 70-seat performance venue on 2nd Story’s ground floor located at 28 Market Street in Warren.

“Since its opening in 2001, 2nd Story Theatre has set the stage for the highest professional standards for excellence in the performance of its plays, while increasing visibility and stimulating the economy in the area,” said Ned Handy, President, Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, Rhode Island. “By purchasing the building at 28 Market Street, 2nd Story Theatre is making an investment and commitment to the East Bay community. This organization is a local gem and we are proud to support its expansion and recognize it as a Champion in Action.”

 

“NBC 10 is proud to recognize 2nd Story Theatre for its efforts to strengthen Warren’s economic development,” said Vice President and General Manager Vic Vetters of NBC 10. “This unique partnership of artists, actors and audience has resulted in a successful local live theatre venue, and we are pleased to name it a Champion in Action.”

 

The Champions in Action program is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program designed to enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities. Launched in 2002, Champions in Action is a joint initiative of Citizens Bank and NBC 10 to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to Rhode Island communities. To date, the program has given 42 nonprofits more than $1 million in grants and promotional support in Rhode Island.

 

2nd Story Theatre provides a wide array of programs, including:

·         “Tell 4 Friends” to promote 2nd Story as a cultural destination;

·         Collaboration with area high schools and colleges to foster the next generation of artists through workshops and productions;

·         High-quality live theatre at affordable pricing.

 

 

As a Champion in Action, 2nd Story Theatre receives:

·         A $35,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from the Citizens Charitable Foundation;

·         Media coverage from NBC 10, including public service announcements and television profiles over the course of six months;

·         Volunteer support from Citizens and NBC 10 colleagues;

·         The opportunity for the organization’s executive director to participate in a “President-to-President” mentorship with Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, Rhode Island President Ned Handy

·         Extensive public relations support

·         Promotional support highlighting the Champion in Action on all Citizens Bank branch DCN screens and ATMs

·         Exposure on both Citizens Bank and NBC 10 websites
