Well known as "The White Church" in the East Bay, Barrington Congregational also is one of Rhode Island's oldest. Founded in 1717, the landmark church actually dates back to the 1660s, when a congregation gathered not far away on Hundred Acre Cove.

This Congregational/UCC church is rooted in the "covenantal" tradition, according to its senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Larsen. There is no centralized authority or hierarchy to impose doctrine or a form of worship. "Everything is determined by a democratic vote of the congregation," says Rev. Larsen. Sunday School, youth programs, education and community outreach are its primary focuses. "We believe in community and see the life of Jesus as a model," Rev. Larsen says. The associate pastor is the Rev. Elizabeth Barnum.

While you are shoppping don't forget to stop and have a great cup of coffee from Providence Coffe Roaster, located at 181 Willett Ave in Riverside. Our aim is to provide excellent coffee to our customers all the time. Roasted locally, Providence Coffee Roasters is intentional about selecting direct, fairly traded and chemically clean green coffee.

Love the Farmer's Market and the old church. What I miss is the White Church Fair that was held for so many years. I also miss the old wooden fence that spanned the white church bridge and the wild English Roses that grew over the wooden fence.

Remember the St. Andrew's boat house and the float that we swam from to jump on and off the bridge.

What is left now is trash and a bridge that is completely broken....oh how I miss the old days!!
