On November 21, 2012, just prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday,  we learned from a posting on the Barrington Patch that the East Bay Community Development Corporation (EBCDC)  was hosting an "informational meeting" on November 27th at the Barrington Public Library Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.  The event was not published in the Barrington Times.     According to the announcement the EBCDC will "field questions" from attendees.        We urge you to attend this meeting, make your voice heard, as well as that of your neighbors and friends.
We now have Petition signatures of 517  Barrington residents (almost all   in the Hampden Meadows community)   opposing any development involving Multi-Unit rental housing on the Sowams Nursery Property.  The petition has been delivered to all major boards and committees in town.      We would voice our opposition to this proposed project  irrespective of any  issues concerning Low and Moderate Income tenants, and we are looking forward to the opportunity to present the case against this project at future meetings of responsible Municipal Boards,Committees and Departments..
Whether this meeting is "informational" or not remains to be seen.  But it is important that we get an up-close look at what is proposed.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
Bill

The library is recognized as one of the finest in Rhode Island with a mission to provide free, diverse and easily accessible materials, services and programs that educate, inform, enrich and entertain Barrington residents, according to Director Debbie Barchi. It is a member of the Ocean State Lending consortium of libraries, which share an online catalog. It offers databases that can be accessed online at the library or from a home or business. The library strives to serve all age groups and their special needs. One of its most popular adult programs is a film series in an auditorium that boasts state-of-the-art visual equipment, a wide screen and padded stadium seating. Meeting space is available for a small fee. The library offers copy machines and homedelivery of materials. Hundreds of story hours for children from babies to pre-teens draw thousands of participants each year. The picturesque two-story library occupies most of the square footage of the retrofitted and refurbished former high school next to the Town Hall.
