More About Sowams Woods
The wooded site covers 12 acres on the edges of Echo Lake, the Rhode Island Country Club golf course and Washington Road. Narrow hiking trails wind through the property, purchased by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust for preservation in 2006. Parking is limited to several off-road spaces at the start of the red blaze trail north of the golf course. With 800 feet of frontage on the lake, the property is believed to be the only nesting site for Diamondback terrapins in the state. Dozens of species of birds visit the site each year.
