Please join us for a Book Discussion of "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 6-8 PM at St. John's Church in the Field Hall. Bring a sandwich & beverage. Child Care provided. Viktor Frankl's wife, father, mother and brother died in the concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Enduring extreme hunger, cold and brutality, first in Auschwitz then Dachau, Frankl himself was under constant threat of going to the gas ovens. He lost every physical belonging on his first day in the camps and was forced to surrender a scientific manuscript he considered his life's work. This is, if ever ther was one, a story that could excuse a person's belief that life is meaningless and suicide a reasonable option. Yet having been lowered into the pits of humanity, Frankl emerged an optimist. His reasoning was that even in the most terrible circumstances, a person still has the freedom to choose how they see their circumstances and create meaning out of them. More About St John's Episcopal Church
St. John's Episcopal is not only "the big church on the hill," according to Parish Administrator Michelle DuPont. "We're also very welcoming" with a mission committed to the care, nourishment and spiritual growth of all. The church is one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of Rhode Island. Among its outreach efforts is Beyond Our Walls, a non-profit that offers volunteers a chance to perform a Great Day of Service statewide each year on the Monday of Columbus Day weekend. The church also sets up Pumpkin Junction for a month on the front lawn in late September each year. It operates a clothing consignment shop, Encore. Joining the 900-member congregation last fall was the Rev. Robert K. Marshall, the 14th Rector since the church opened its doors in 1859.
