Walkabout West Side of Vets Park

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is hosting a walk on Saturday to examine trails in preparation for more improvements to Veterans Memorial Park.

You are invited to do a walkabout of the west side of Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The walkabout starts at 10 am near the American Legion Hall on Legion Way.

“Examine trails and wetlands in preparation for the next phase of park projects to improve trail conditions, close trails where needed, and complete the new trail system,” said Helen Tjader of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust.

“We will be walking off trail or in wet and snowy conditions as part of our review,” Tjader said. “Check out the elm tree. We will also drive to Brick Pond Drive and hike from that location for the second part of the walkabout.”

Park and meet at the Legion Way ice skating rink, she said. And dress for the day's weather.

“Long pants, gloves and sturdy shoes are recommended,” Tjader said. “Insect repellant is advisable year-round for tick protection.

The walkabout will be postponed with steady rain.
