You are invited to recognize veterans -- especially Vietnam veterans -- on Monday, Nov. 12, at a special ceremony in Barrington.

The United Veterans Council of Barrington will again lay a wreath at the Honor Roll on the Town Hall lawn at 11 am.

The veterans also will lay a wreath and mount a plaque that recognizes all Vietnam veterans on an empty stone at the memorial next to Town Hall, said Robert Smith, an active veterans council member and a Vietnam veteran.

Monday's events will be similar to past years, except the Veterans Council chose to celebrate Veterans Day on the day set aside by the federal government, said Smith.

Usually, ceremonies are held precistely at 11 am on Nov. 11 -- the exact end of World War I, which ended in 1918 on Armistice Day at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The final day of the three-day weekend was selected for the annual ceremony this year.

The Veterans Council has invited a guest speaker. Town officials and dignitaries have been invited to participate.

The Veterans Council hopes for a large turnout with many people off for the holiday.

The Honor Roll pays tribute to veterans of Barrington. The memorial at Town Hall recognizes all veterans.
