Vandal Defaces Historic Sign
Vandal with a Sharpie wrote all over the marker that designates the Town Hall and library area as government center.
A vandal defaced a historic sign outside the Barrington Public Library last week.
A Sharpie pen was used to write on the plexi-glass-covered sign that designates the Town Hall and library buildings as Barrington’s Civic Center Historic District, said Police Chief John LaCross.
The vandalism was reported to the police late Wednesday morning, Aug. 29. The sign was erected by the Barrington Preservation Society at the top of the amphitheater-like hillside between the library and the driveway that circles the Town Hall.
Historic signs on the East Bay Bike Path also have been common targets for vandals. The vandalism is believed to have occurred sometime overnight.
