Get shots for the flu, whooping cough and pneumonia today at the Riverside Middle School in East Providence. The clinic is open to anyone, not just East Providence residents.
The vaccination clinic runs from 4 to 7 pm at the school at 179 Forbes St.
East Providence, the Rhode Island Department of Health, and the Wellness Company, which gave the pertussis vaccinations in Barrington last year, are teaming up to offer the vaccinations.
The regular seasonal flu shot will be offered for those ages 6 months and older who have not received it yet this season.
The Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine is for anyone 11 years of age and older.
Anyone who is in close contact with an infant should get a Tdap shot if they haven’t been immunized in the past five years, and all adults are encouraged to receive Tdap once in their lifetime.
Pregnant women must be at least 20 weeks into their pregnancies to receive the Tdap vaccine.
The pneumococcal vaccine, which protects against pneumonia, will also be offered for adults ages 19 and older. This is particularly recommended for smokers and for those who have athsma.
There is no charge for any vaccination. Anyone who is insured should bring his or her insurance card. No one will be turned away for a lack of health insurance.
If you have any questions about the seasonal flu, Tdap, or pneumonia vaccines, contact the Rhode Island Department of Health at (401) 222-5960.
