Three Men, All 18, Face Vandalism, Property Damage Charges

The Barrington men allegedly tossed a rock and eggs onto a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Terrace Drive home.

 

Three 18-year-old Barrington men face charges of vandalism and malicious injury to property.

Phillip W. Shana, of 24 South Meadow Ave.; Maximillan W. Bean, of 10 Jenny’s Lane, and Alessandro A. Guani, of 21 Martin Ave., were charged on Thursday, Feb. 9, by Barrington police.

The charges follow an investigation into vandalism to a car parked in the driveway of a home on Terrace Drive early Sunday morning, Jan. 29.

The rear window of the vehicle was smashed by a large rock at about 1:03 am, police said. The vehicle also had been “egged,” police said, and apparently not the first time.

A silver BMW was spotted in the area, police said. A car matching that description later was found parked on Bay Road near Water Way about 1:42 am with the three men, police said. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the area.

Handgun fired at Walker Farm

A Riverside man, 26, was charged by Barrington police on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12, with discharging a handgun near the Walker Farm leaf disposal site off of County Road.

Thomas R. Kern Jr., of 30 Star Road, was arrested at 1:45 pm after firing at least five shots at a bag of leaves. Police found him with a .40 caliber Glock handgun and 16 shells.

“Walker Farm is not a licensed shooting range,” said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

The shots were fired north in the direction of the two bird sanctuaries off of County Road, which draw many walkers, LaCross said.

A Barrington police dispatcher received the report of a gun possibily being discharged by the East Providence Police Department. It a received a call about the noise.

Barrington man faces DUI charge

A Barrington man, 21, faces a charge of drunk driving early Sunday morning, Feb. 12.

Brian C. Weinstein, of 19 Christine Drive, was pulled over by Barrington police on County Road near Eleanor Drive at about 2:47 am. He was traveling south.

Weinstein failed field sobriety tests at the scene, police said. He was described as having an odor of alcohol with watery, bloodshot eyes.

Weinstein was arraigned at the police station by a justice of the peace at 9:45 am after spending the rest of the night in a jail cell. He was released into the custody of his brother around 10 am. He also faces a charge of refusing to submit to a Breathalyzer test.

Man faces DUI medication charge

A Cranston man, 38, faces a charge of driving under the influence of medication in Barrington on Friday afternoon, Feb. 10, after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident.

A car driven erratically by Gary G. Machado, of 58 Preston Drive, according to police, collided with another vehicle at the intersection of County Road and Federal Road around 3 pm. There were no injuries.

Machado stumbled out of his vehicle and fumbled while trying to find his driver’s license and while responding to requests to perform other physical tests.

“We believe he was on medication,” said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross, which is the same as driving drunk.

Machado was arraigned by a justice of the peace in the police station. He was released later that day to his wife. He also faces a charge of refusing to submit to a Breathalyzer test

Man charged for violating order

A Barrington man, 30, was charged by Barrington police on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, with violating a protective order issued to his girlfriend, also of Barrington.

Mark R. Herden, of 4 Belton Drive, turned himself into police. He was arraigned by a justice of the peace in the police station and released with a court date.
