Teitz Gets Communications Scholarship
Elizabeth (Liz) Teitz of Barrington receives an award from Cox Communications.
Elizabeth (Liz) Teitz of Barrington was one of eight high school seniors to be awarded a 2012 Cox Communications scholarship at a recent ceremony at the RI State House.
In total, Cox Communications awarded $16,000 in scholarships to the seniors. Teitz graduated about two weeks ago.
The students were recognized by Attorney General Peter Kilmartin for their commitment to their education and the community.
Scholarship recipients are chosen based on their outstanding academic achievement; community service; and interest in pursuing a career in the communications, telecommunications, technology or engineering fields.
More than 60 scholarship applications were reviewed by a committee comprised of community and business leaders.
Teitz, who is enrolling at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, in the fall, was Barrington's first student representative on the School Committee. She finished her one-year term in May.
