TAP-IN, Firefighters Offer Turkey Dinners
Local organizations are stocking Thanksgiving food baskets for families who might be going through some tough times.
Several local organizations will be stocking Thanksgiving food baskets for families that might be going through some tough economic times this year.
But you’ll need to sign up right away. The baskets are going fast.
TAP-IN (Touch a Person in Need) still has a few baskets to give out to its East Bay clients. It hopes to assist 425 or more families and individuals this year with the help of the Elks Club and the Salvation Army, which are donating 25 baskets each to TAP-IN.
Firefighters Local 1774 also will be donating approximately 50 Thanksgiving baskets to families in need in Barrington, according to firefighter David Paull. It’s the fourth year for their basket give-away.
TAP-IN plans to hand out its baskets on Saturday, Nov. 19. The firefighters will distribute their baskets on that same weekend. To request a basket from the firefighters, call Paull at 401-252-9232 or the fire department at 401-437-3940.
What will a basket contain?
Each basket will be filled with all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, such as vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, fruit, instant potatoes, and a dessert item. TAP-IN adds a $15 gift card to buy a turkey at Shaw’s. The firefighters include a frozen turkey.
TAP-IN’s regular office hours are from 9 am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday. For more information, call 247-1444.

Barrington Firefighters Local 1774 has some baskets available but we usually max out at 50-55. Barrington residents are put at the top of the list but we do our absolute best to make sure every family is taken care of. We also DO NOT want duplicate calls so if anyone is already getting a basket from another organization, please do not ask for another. As of now we have over 30 families on our list ranging from Barrington to Riverside and Warren. Barrington Firefighters Union Local 1774 supplies money from it charitable account and also receives assistance from the Newman Congregational Church in East Providence. Anyone wishing to donate to a local family can do so in the form a gift card to a local supermarket and it will be used to directly help a local family having a hard time (call David Paull at 401-252-9232 or drop it by the Barrington Fire station). Our families have a variety reasons that they may need help and are truly appreciative. All families names are kept confidential. Thank you!
