Superintendent Search Starts in Earnest
The Search Committee meets tonight in an 'orientation' session that kicks off their review of around two-dozen applicants for Barrington's next superintendent of schools.
The committee selected to search through applications from about two-dozen candidates for the next superintendent of the Barrington schools meets for the first time Monday evening, Feb. 6, in Town Hall.
The “orientation” meeting is open to the public. It starts at 7 pm in the School Committee Room.
Sixteen members make up the Superintendent Search Committee, including all members of the Barrington School Committee and Ron Tarro, assistant superintendent of administration and finance, a non-voting member.
The remaining 10 members were selected after responding to an invitation from the School Committee and a process that sought representatives from various interest groups, such as parents, teachers, and the community at large.
The group is expected to make a recommendation to the School Committee for the leading candidates by the end of February, said Tarro. The School Committee is looking to make an offer to its top choice by mid-March.
Members of the search committee are (in alphabetical order):
- Anthony Arico Sr., community
- Kate Brody, School Committee member
- Jim Callahan, Sowams School principal
- Anna Clancy, a parent and Barrington Education Foundation member
- Peter DeAngelis Jr., Barrington town manager
- Paula Dominguez, a parent and Nayatt PTO president
- Doris Eddins, a retired teacher and former School Committee member
- Adela Felag, a teacher at the middle school
- Scott Fuller, School Committee vice-chairman
- Patrick Guida, School Committee chairman
- Arlene Miguel, Hampden Meadows School principal
- Marlene Prichard, a middle school teacher and president of the teachers’ union (National Education Association Barrington)
- Chris Ramsden, School Committee member
- Bob Shea, School Committee member
- Richard Wheeler, Barrington Middle School principal
- Ron Tarro, (ex-officio) assistant superintendent of administration and finance
William Garr, executive vice president of Future Management Systems, Inc. of Beverly, Mass., a consultant hired to help the School Committee with the search, also will be on hand to oversee the meeting.
The session will introduce specific search guidelines, give the group the “leadership profile” put together after a public survey and School Committee input, and go over “confidentiality” standards, said Tarro.
The committee will not receive the approximately two-dozen applications for superintendent at the meeting, Tarro said. That will occur after the meeting.

This sounds like a wonderful group of highly educated people but my question is Why wasn't anyone from Special Education on the list there are many Special Education Students in this town and I feel it's important for a Special Education Educator be present for this.By not including the Special Education group it seems as the town is dealing with children that have no issues and believe me that's not true,I hope it's not to late to take this into consideration.
