Street Signs Turning Reflective Blue

Have you noticed the new blue and white street signs in Barrington?

Upland Way has one. So does Barrington Avenue, Joy Street, South Street, Walter Street, High Street and Massachusetts Avenue.

The metal signs are the first ones made with a new computerized sign-making machine at the Department of Public Works. It replaced a manual machine that took quite a bit longer to manufacture each sign, said DPW Director Alan Corvi.

They are a reflective blue that is much more reflective in headlights at night, he said. They also are larger – from 6 to 9 inches in width.

The signs are replacing the white signs with black letters, he said.

“As the signs wear out or are stolen,” Corvi said, “they will be replaced with the new blue signs. Not all at once.”

Maybe in two years, he said, every street sign in Barrington will be reflective blue.

The new signs also now meet federal guidelines for size and reflectivity, said Corvi.
