Snow, Rain Mix Seems Likely

The most recent forecast seems to indicate that heavy snow will miss most of Rhode Island.

Uncertainty about this weekend’s weather continues.

Will it snow and how much? Will it just rain? Will there be a mix?

The exact track and strength of the storm moving up the Atlantic coast may not be known for a while yet. But the National Weather Service is forecasting that there is a possibility a winter storm watch will be extended farther south.

Several inches of heavy, wet snow seem possible – raising the specter of downed tree limbs causing scattered power outages and causing slippery driving conditions.

The exact forecast for today calls for a chance of snow before 3 pm, then a chance of rain between 3 and 5 pm, then rain and snow likely after 5 pm with less than a half inch of accumulation possible.

Saturday night will have a mix of rain and snow with a new accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday could see all snow after 10 am with new precipitation and snow showers into the evening.

Stay tuned.
