Sidewalk Sale Pairs with 'Duckies'
Business group to hold its fall sidewalk sale on the same day as the annual Rubber Ducky Race sponsored by the Barrington Education Foundation.
Barrington’s sidewalk sale will share Saturday, Oct. 1, with the annual Rubber Ducky Race in Woods Pond.
The Barrington Business Association officially approved that change of date Wednesday night, July 13, at the monthly meeting held in Webster Bank.
Representatives of the Barrington Education Foundation, which sponsors the annual Rubber Ducky Race as a major fundraiser, embraced the change of date as a way to create more movement, activity and a greater community environment.
The BBA will set up a table with a couple gift baskets to go along with the cash prizes given out by the foundation to lucky winners. The business association also will use the sidewalk sale to launch a special holiday promotion.
A mock "passport" will be created for shoppers to fill with stamps as they do their holiday shopping at local merchants throughout Barrington. After they are filled with stamps, shoppers will then drop the passports in a box for a drawing at the Dec. 3 tree-lighting ceremony at Town Hall.
“Shoppers will have two months to fill them,” said Lois Coppolino of Daisy Dig’ins, who served as chairwoman of the meeting.
Prizes are expected to involve cash, gift certificates and dining coupons, she said.
The BBA also has its own Facebook page now, said Michelle Cartwright of RE/MAX River’s Edge, who built the page. She asked members to go online to “like” the page to build its popularity on the social media site.
