Shovel Sidewalk or Face $50 Fine
Barrington Police Chief John LaCross says patrol officers will be checking sidewalks today; town ordinance mandates that they had to be cleared by yesterday evening.
Have you cleared your sidewalk yet?
Barrington police officers will begin checking sidewalks today to make sure they are cleared of snow, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.
A town ordinance mandates that sidewalks be cleared by 6 pm on the day after a storm ends. The Blizzard of 2013 ended Saturday afternoon. That means the deadline was 6 pm Sunday.
“Officers are going to be driving around and noticing sidewalks that are not cleared,” said LaCross. “They will be knocking on doors, especially in the commercial area of town. You could get a $50 fine.”
LaCross estimated that 40 percent of sidewalks were cleared of snow on Sunday. So there were a lot of sidewalks left to be cleared.
Sidewalks on streets used by children who walk to school will be observed very closely, LaCross said. Schools are expected to reopen Tuesday.
