Rock 'n Roll Film Series at Library

The Barrington Public Library offers a four-part rock 'n roll film series every Thursday evening in May.

The Barrington Public Library hosts a four-film movie series titled “Rock ‘n Roll” on Thursday evenings starting at 7 tomorrow.

The films will be shown in the theatre-like auditorium with surround sound. All are free and start at 7 pm.

May 3: Shine A Light (2008), 122 minutes, Rated R
One of America's greatest directors and one of the world's greatest bands unite to bring this musical event to the screen. Martin Scorsese filmed the Rolling Stones during their concert for President Bill Clinton's celebrity-packed birthday bash at the Beacon Theatre in New York. Scorsese assembled an incredible team of cinematographers to capture the raw energy of this legendary band.

May 10: The Last Waltz (1978), 117 minutes, Rated PG
Considered one of the best rock documentaries of all time, The Last Waltz chronicles The Band’s final concert (Thanksgiving, 1976). Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell and other legends from the ‘60s and ‘70s perform with The Band.  Join music and film aficionado, Scott Duhamel, for a discussion about Martin Scorsese as a director of music films and documentaries following the movie.

May 17: Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002), 116 minutes, Rated PG
Fourteen years in the making, this film is based upon a book of the same title that won the 1989 Rolling Stone / BMl "Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award", Standing in the Shadows of Motown was shot in 35mm film, on location in Detroit and elsewhere. This one hour and forty-eight minute documentary and performance film tells the Funk Brothers' saga through archival footage and still photos, narration, interviews, re-creation scenes, 20 Motown master tracks, and twelve new live performances of Motown classics with the Funk Brothers backing up Chaka Khan, Ben Harper, Bootsy Collins, Montell Jordan, Meshell Ndegeocello, Joan Osborne, and Gerald Levert.

May 24: Almost Famous (2000), 122 minutes, Rated R
William Miller (Patrick Fugit), an aspiring fifteen-year-old journalist, hits the road with the Stillwater band to document the band's rise in popularity in an article for Rolling Stone magazine. Billy falls in love with the music and the lifestyle, is taken by the free-spirited beauty Penny Lane (Kate Hudson), and learns a few things about himself along the way in this fictional rendition of director Cameron Crowe's experience as a teen journalist in the '70s.
