Reminder: Heartworks' Cook-Off Tomorrow
The annual Heartworks Soup & Chili Cookoff is Saturday night at the Cutler Mill in Warren; 10 soups and chilis to pick from; music by Drowne Jenny.
The fourth annual Heartworks Soup & Chili Cook-off is tomorrow, March 2, if it slipped your mind or your sticky note slipped off the refrigerator or you missed the Patch story last Friday.
The event runs from 7 to 11:30 pm at The Event Room in the Cutler Mill in Warren. Drowne Jenny of Barrington, a three-man group that has performed at each previous cookoff, will provide music again.
The fundraiser for Barrington's act-of-kindness group will feature five homemade soups and five homemade chilis made by Hearworks' members and friends. A prize will be awarded for the best chili and soup in each category.
"All guests get to vote," said Amy Ames, founder of Heartworks' Barrington.
Grapes & Grains liquor store in Barrington is providing craft beers.
“Our mission is to reach out to those experiencing unexpected life challenges,” said Ames, who founded Heartworks in Barrington more than five years go.
“There are now eight Heartworks groups in the nation engaging over 750 women,” she said. “Proceeds from this event will go directly to help those families in town and in our surrounding community experiencing the effects of grief, loss and medical challenges.”
Among Heartworks' most recent efforts, she said, is giving rides to people undergoing chemotherapy and providing meals for people experiencing grief or a medical illness.
"We try to normalize life's challenges," she said. "We run through the generosity and donations of local people. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year."
Cost of the cookoff is $25 per person in advance or $30 at the door. Tickets are on sale at the Lots a Helping Hands website. Or send an email to heartworksri@gmail.com.
