Readers' Choice: Be a Tourist In East Bay

A summer getaway not in the cards this year? No problem... there are plenty of things to do right here in the East Bay to help you enjoy a summer stay-cation.

With the weather warming and the school year entering the home stretch, it’s time to start making plans for summer vacation.

But for many families operating on a tight budget, an extravagant trip out of town for the whole family simply isn’t a reality, leaving them to consider options closer to home.

That doesn’t mean their summer vacation has to go to waste. There are plenty of things to do right here in town and around the region. This week, Patch wanted to help you become a tourist in your own town. We want to know what are your favorite destinations to hit on your summer “stay-cation.”

Will you take a walk through Veterans Memorial Park, Hit the links at Metacomet Country Club or spend a few nights at one of the area hotels or bed and breakfasts.

Vote in our poll below, then share your thoughts in the comments section. Since we couldn't possibly name them all in our poll, add your favorite destinations in the comments section below, and they will be considered for this week's winner.

We'll leave the poll up all week then close voting at 9 a.m. Friday. At noon that day, we'll share your top local pick. Then be sure to watch the site over the weekend when we tally up the top votes and announce the favorite places to be a hometown tourist throughout Rhode Island.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

My favorite place in the East Bay for a day of relaxation is Barrington Beach. It's quiet and peaceful and a wonderful place to sit under an umbrella with a cold drink and good book.
