Civil War collectible reported stolen during move
A suspected larceny that was reported to Barrington police last Saturday, Sept. 1, included a rare weapon that is a collector’s item: a Civil War bayonet worth $2,000.
A Sowams Road man, 48, who moved to Barrington recently walked into the police station on Saturday to report the larceny. He believes it might be linked to the moving company that relocated his possessions.
The larceny also included a variety of watches and other jewelry. The total value of the theft is approximately $3,000, police were told.
Detectives are investigating the theft. The case remains open.
Women threatened with letters
On that same day, Sept. 1, a Fales Avenue woman, 47, reported to Barrington police that she has been receiving threatening letters.
The letters have included statements that she should “watch her back” and that the sender was planning “to visit her.”
She told police officers that she has no idea who is sending her the letters and why they are threatening her.
