Rabid Raccoon Bites Barrington Girl, 4
A raccoon that got into a Maple Avenue garage bit the girl; the raccoon was euthanized and tested positive for rabies.
A rabid raccoon bit the finger of a Maple Avenue girl, 4, in the garage of her family's home last week.
Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the girl was being treated. The raccoon was tested positive for rabies by the RI Department of Health, which contacted the police department on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
LaCross said the girl's mother heard their two dogs barking outside. She discovered that her daughter had been bitten when she went to check on the dogs.
The woman called the police department and the Department of Environmental Management. A DEM officer captured the raccoon and euthanized it.
