Purse Swiped from Lighted Kitchen

Birch Road woman reports that her purse was stolen while she and her husband were asleep upstairs and a light was on downstairs.

So much for a night light if the sliding glass door lock is broken.

A Birch Road woman reported to Barrington police last Tuesday morning, Feb. 19, that her purse was stolen from her kitchen counter while she and her husband were sleeping upstairs.

The burglary is believed to have occurred between 11 pm on Monday and 2:30 am on Tuesday because her husband did not see the purse on the counter when he got up in the middle of the night, according to the police report.

The woman reported the theft at around 9:20 am shortly after she found the front door unlocked and a rear sliding glass door ajar. The slider was actually reported to have a lock that is broken; it was found open about two inches.

The woman said she also leaves a night light on in the kitchen, which didn’t seem to deter the burglar.

Reported lost in the purse were two sets of keys and car remotes worth about $200; the woman’s wallet had been removed from the purse before she went to bed, police said. The purse is valued at about $139, police reported.
