Police Chief Expects Aggressive Traffic Law Enforcement
Barrington Police Chief John LaCross expects his officers to actively pursue traffic law enforcement when they aren't investigating other incidents.
A 24-year-old Warren man was stopped by Barrington police for speeding on County Road early in the morning on Feb. 3 – around 1:38 am. Two days later, another Warren man was stopped on County Road around 1 am because the view of his license plate was obstructed.
It would have been easy for the police officers who stopped them to look the other way at that time of the day. There are far fewer cars out on Barrington streets at that time of the morning.
But Barrington Police Chief John LaCross demands aggressive enforcement of traffic laws from his officers when they are not involved in an investigation, according to a story on eastbayri.com. LaCross views it as a deterrent to crime and a way to make Barrington’s street safer.
Indeed, both Warren man failed field sobriety tests; one was found to have blood alcohol levels far greater than the legal limit and he was carrying marijuana in his pocket. Both were charged for drunk driving; one also pled out in court to carrying an illegal substance. Who knows what could have happened if police officers had not made these routine traffic stops. Let's see ....what happened recently that might be driving (no pun) this?
Oh! The town council wants a traffic court so a "local attorney" (guess who) can be a "judge".
Problem is....it takes a boat load o' tickets to justify a traffic court.
So buckle up & slow down, folks!
