The Barrington Democratic Town Committee hosts a 'Meet the Candidates' night Sunday, Sept. 9; Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse stopped by to mingle with candidates and supporters.

Dozens of Barrington Democratic candidates and their supporters mingled Sunday evening, Sept. 9, at a "Meet the Candidates" night at Grapes & Grains liquor store on Bosworth Street. U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island also joined the guests.

The event ran from 5 to 7 pm with a table full of hors' doeuvres and store owner Matt Amaral providing samples of wine. Conversation flowed freely but Whitehouse was the only Democrat to say a couple words. He apologized for tired vocal chords after last week's Democratic National Convention.

The Barrington candidates included Rep. Joy Hearn and Rep. Jan Malik of Districts 66 and 67, respectively; Town Council President June Speakman and Town Councilor Kate Weymouth and Town Council challenger Ann Strong, a member of the Planning Board; School Committee member Robert Shea and School Committee challenger Paula Dominguez, and Town Moderator Julia Califano, who has no challenger.

Gary, thanks for pointing out my oversight. Ann Strong, who has worked for many years on the Barrington Planning Board, is a Democratic candidate for Town Council. The story has been updated. See the information provided by her for her Patch profile: http://patch.com/A-x3LG.
