Memorial Day in Barrington today drew the usual hundreds of parade-watchers to the United Veterans Council-coordinate event. To quote Michael Tripp, president of the United Veterans Council: "It's a real community event.

The parade and exercises began at 8:30 am at the Victory Field Memorial Gates at Barrington High School.  A roll call of Barrington veterans who died in war was read by Robert Smith of the Veterans Council.

Girl Scouts raised the flag. The Rev. Robert K. Marshall of St. John's Episcopal Church said prayer. Luigi Carusi American of American Legion Post #8 and Louis Codega, VFW Post # 9742 placed a wreath.

The parade started at 9:30 am at the high school and ended at the Town Hall entrance near the Prince’s Hill Cemetery. There was a massing of colors at the Honor Roll near Town Hall. Carusi and Codega placed a second wreath.

Among the dignitaries at the ceremony at Town Hall were Molly Williams of the Barrington High School chorus who led the signing of the national anthem. The high school band played. Aaron Schwartz read "The Gettysburg Address." Luke Lasorsa led the singing of "America the Beautiful."

Jay Gasbarro, USN, Ret., will serve as honorary marshal. The principal speaker was Capt. Randy Parks of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Ann Proulx led the signing of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." The Rev. Marshall closed the ceremony with a benediction. See the photos for a broad glimpse of the Memorial Day ceremonies.
