Nayatt Road Man Faces Hit & Run Charges

Jeffrey Jenkins, 57, also charged with DUI after crash injures Golf Channel worker.

A Nayatt Road man faces several Barrington police charges after a hit-and-run accident near Rhode Island Country Club last Thursday morning, Aug. 11, injured a Golf Channel worker.

Jeffrey B. Jenkins, 57, of 166 Nayatt Road, was charged by police with drunk driving, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Police said Jenkins was traveling west on Nayatt Road at about 9:30 am when he drove his 2006 Range Rover into a Golf Channel boom truck pulling onto the road from a staging area near Tillinghast Farm. The Golf Channel covered the final days of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship held last week at the country club.

The crash injured a man who was struck in the face by a TV camera mounted on the truck. A rescue vehicle transported the victim to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

Jenkins reportedly returned to the scene of the crash after visiting a hardware store, police said. Police charged him with a DUI after smelling alcohol on his breath and finding a partially empty 200 ml bottle of Dewar’s scotch whiskey under his front seat. His vehicle was impounded, police said.

Man Charged with Domestic Assault

A Middle Highway man faces domestic assault charges by Barrington police after a scuffle with his wife and son.

Mark E. Koehler, 43, of 83 Middle Highway, was charged on Wednesday, Aug. 10, with domestic simple assault and battery and domestic disorderly conduct. Police said Koehler initially said that he was assaulted by his son.

Koehler was treated at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital for pain in the rib area, police said. The altercation reportedly followed a yelling match between him and his wife.

Drunk Driver Slumped in Car

A Providence man faces drunk-driving charges by Barrington police after he was found passed out and slumped over the steering wheel of his car in the high-speed lane on County Road near Walker Farm.

Winston R. Guerrero-Pena, 39, of Messer Street, was found at around 1:14 am on Sunday, Aug. 14, police said. He also was arrested on a 6th District Court bench warrant for failing to appear on a previous traffic violation after posting $9,055 in bail with surety.

Guerrero-Pena was arraigned by a justice of the peace at the police station. A Breathlyzer was administered by the police; it registered a .14 blood alcohol level, police said.
