An attorney who is a member of the Rhode Island Board of Regents, the CEO of his own medical device company, and a local educator are the Repubicans vying for seats on the Barrington School Committee in this year’s general election.
Two of the Republicans already holds seats on the School Committee and are seeking re-election. The other candidate is a newcomer to a political campaign.
Barrington Patch asked School Committee Chairman Patrick "Buzz" Guida, School Committee member Christopher Ramsden, and Meaghan "Meg" Ramsden to fill out a questionnaire that provides a brief profile of their backgrounds.
You will see that Guida was elected to the School Committee in 1996, and has served as its chairman for all but two of his years on the board. The partner in Duffy & Sweeney Ltd. in Providence is the vice-chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Regents, the chief policy-setting body overseeing elementary and secondary education in Rhode Island. He is seeking his 5th four-year term.
You will see that Chris Ramsden is seeking his first full term on the School Committee. He was elected in January 2011 to fill out a vacated term. He has been the CEO of Millstone Medical Outsourcing in Fall River, Mass., and Memphis, Tenn., for almost nine years; the company is an orthopedic medical device outsourcing firm.
Meg Ramsden's profile shows that she has been a teacher at the Barrington Early Learning Center, and an active volunteer in the Barrington Public Schools. This is her first try for public office.
