Man Driving Car With Flat Tire Faces DUI

Barrington police arrest an East Providence man early last Friday morning for driving drunk in a car with a flat tire.

An East Providence man driving a car with a flat tire early last Friday morning, March 1, has been charged with drunk driving after Barrington police responded to a citizen complaint.

Zackery S. Luis, 22, of 15 Hobson Ave., was arrested at around 3 am near New Meadow Road and Crossways. The caller told police he heard several people talking outside his home about who was capable of driving home, according to the police report.

Patrol officers Mark Haddigan and Lee Soito located the vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, a few minutes after receiving the call. The vehicle was described as "rolling slowly" south on New Meadow Road. Luis told the police officers he thought he could drive that way.

Luis allegedly exhibited the usual physical signs for intoxication, slurred speech, bloodshot and water eyes, lack of coordination, and a strong odor of alcohol, according to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. He was unsteady on his feet.

Luis failed a field sobriety test, according to LaCross. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test to determine his blood alcohol level.

Luis was transported to the police station on Federal Road, where he was arraigned and held overnight in a jail cell. He was taken to Sixth District Court early Friday morning to face the charges.
