Man, 70, Charged With Shoplifting
Warren man reportedly steals bottle of antiseptic from CVS/pharmacy.
A 70-year-old Warren man was charged with shoplifting by Barrington police on Saturday, May 14.
John Roberts, of Hope Street, was observed by a Barrington patrolman leaving the CVS/pharmacy on County Road with a bottle of antiseptic soap in a shopping cart that also held a duffle bag, police said. Nothing was in the bag.
Roberts was carrying enough money to pay for the $5 bottle, police said, but he chose not to. He was charged at around 11:20 am and released on his own recognizance.
Teen faces MJ, alcohol charges
A teenage boy, 17, was charged by Barrington police with possession of marijuana and alcohol on Friday, May 13, at about 10:30 pm.
The juvenile was sitting in a car on George Street when he was arrested, police said. A resident called in a report of a suspicious vehicle on the street.
A search of the vehicle uncovered cans of beer and a smoking bowl as well as the marijuana, police said. He was charged at the station and released.
Temple sign vandalized
The sign in front of Temple Habonim on New Meadow Road was vandalized sometime overnight on Friday, May 13, police said.
Vandals used red and blue spray paint on the sign, according to a photo taken by police. The damage was primarily scribbles, with no discernible letters, words or images.
Police received a report of the vandalism at 11:42 am on Friday.
Hope woman arrested
A woman, 22, from Hope, RI, was picked up on a District Court bench warrant on Saturday, May 14, in Barrington, police said.
Caitlin Sousa was stopped for speeding on County Road. The warrant was issued because she failed to appear in court or make payment on a fine for a previous charge of driving with a suspended license, police said.
Sousa’s license was active at the time of her arrest, police said.
Harassing calls reported
A Fales Avenue woman reported to police on Saturday, May 14, that she has been receiving harassing telephone calls.
Police are investigating the complaint, which came in at around 9 am. The woman said she believes she can identify the caller.
Outboard motor reported stolen
A Massasoit Avenue man reported the theft of an outboard motor to police on Saturday, May 14.
The motor was sitting on a dock on the Barrington River not far from the central bridge when it was stolen, police said. The theft reportedly occurred between May 12 and 14. It was reported on 3 pm Saturday.
Value of the outboard motor was listed as around $500, police said.
