6 Musicians to Play at Jazz Festival

Six Barrington musicians will perform with the Senior All-State Jazz Ensemble on Saturday morning, Aug. 4, at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Six Barrington musicians will perform at the Newport Jazz Festival this weekend as part of the Rhode Island Music Educators Association Senior All-State Jazz Ensemble.

The appearance by the high school-age musicians is believed to be the first in about 25 years at the renowned festival.

Aaron Schwartz, Willy Gutman, Rachel Hill, Nathan Ward, Dan Andsager, and Jacob Greenberg will play in Newport, according to Patty Schwartz of Barrington, Aaron’s mother.

The first five musicians graduated last June, she said, and Jake Greenberg will be a senior at the high school this year.

The ensemble will perform Saturday at 11:05 am at the Harbor Stage, according to a story in this week's arts and entertainment section of the Providence Journal.

The kids have been having intense rehearsals at West Warwick High School this week with bandleader Metro Narcisi, according to the Journal story.

There also was a warm-up concert in Wickford on Thursday, Schwartz said.

Aaron Schwartz said in the Journal story: “It’s better than it was” when the ensemble last performed together in the spring. “We know everything, and now we’re relearning it."
