Kayaks, Tequila Make Some Trouble for Teen
Barrington police charge young woman, 18, with underage possession of alcohol after group of teens were spotted trying to kayak on the bay at 3:30 in the morning.
An early-morning attempt to take out some kayaks on Narragansett Bay at the beach at the end of Annawamscutt Road and a bottle of tequila got a young Barrington woman charged with alcohol possession last Friday, June 22.
Hanna Y. Duval, 18, of 50 Lorraine St., was charged with underage possession of alcohol after three Barrington police officers found her, another young woman, 18, and three teenage boys, ages 16, 16, and 15 at the end of Annawamscutt Road at around 3:42 am.
A caller reported a suspicious condition at the tiny beach.
The bottle of tequila was found on the front passenger seat of the vehicle Duval was driving, police said. Kayaks without paddles often are left at the beach.
To take the kayaks out on the water at that time of the morning would have been extremely dangerous, especially if anyone was drinking, Police Chief John LaCross said.
No one else was charged. Duval’s mother was contacted to pick up the car and return it home.
'Suspicious condition' at Brickyard Pond
Another report of a suspicious condition last Friday afternoon drew three police officers to Brickyard Pond.
Two boys, both age 15, were found shooting BB guns into the water about 2:30 pm. They would have been sent home with warnings about firing in a compact area, said Police Chief John LaCross, except the officers spotted a smoking bowl typically used for marijuana near them.
The boys were charged with possession of the controlled substance, police said. They received dates to appear in Family Court.
